The summer property market in Reading

The Reading property market in August has been a little like the weather, changeable. With children on school holidays, and rain stopping play, this is fairly typical of the summer holiday season.

August has seen a steady trickle of new property coming to the market, and there have been unusually high levels of buyer activity which has translated into a much higher number of viewing appointments compared to August in previous years.

There is also a definite urgency within specific market sectors, modern 2 bedroomed type properties are seeing a real upturn in interest from both first-time buyers and downsizers who are competing for the best of this property style.

Sales of these properties have kept our team busier than we might have expected for the time of year, and as these homes have gone under offer, the knock-on effect has increased activity in second-stepper homes generating strong interest and sales agreed.

Signs of a return to normality

As we begin to see signs of inflation slowly starting to fall, fierce competition has returned to the mortgage markets as lenders offer more competitive mortgage deals. These positive messages look encouraging for a return to the traditionally busy Autumn market.

In conversation with homeowners currently considering a move this Autumn, traditionally one of the busiest times of the year in the property calendar, there is optimism for a more settled time as both the property and financial markets show early signs of stability.

Selling your home in Reading this Autumn

Our advice to homeowners thinking of moving this Autumn is that price is key, so being sensible about setting the asking price is critical. There are plenty of motivated buyers looking to buy this but price is a significant factor in their decision making.
